The estate takes its name from an old optical telegraph station that once stood on the property, but it's the extraordinary vineyard beneath it that has made Vieux Télégraphe famous.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLa Crau\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e comes from the estate's historic vineyards on the celebrated La Crau plateau, where ancient vines grow among the enormous rounded stones known as \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003egalets roulés\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. Beneath them lies a complex mix of clay and limestone, giving the wines their distinctive combination of power, structure and freshness. Grenache takes the lead in this traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend, with Mourvèdre, Syrah and other local varieties contributing depth and complexity. Magnificent with slow-roasted lamb, duck confit, grilled meats or a hearty Provençal stew.
