the perry's story
The year 2024 marks 90 years since Bert Perry opened the doors of his eponymous business in Provincetown, Cape Cod MA.
Nephew of the famed Captain Marion Perry, owner of the famous schooner “Rose Dorothea” winner of the Lipton Cup in 1907, Bert’s early life was one of adversity. His mother died when he was just three, forcing his fisherman father Manuel to take young Bert to sea with him on his often long and dangerous fishing trips where he was often tied to the mast to avoid him falling overboard. It was on one of these trips that the boat they were onboard began to sink and was abandoned with Bert still tied to the mast. He was rescued by the tightest of margins before the vessel succumbed to the waves.
Bert ran his store for over 50 years whilst playing a central part in the community of the town he so loved. His life was marked by a warmth of spirit, character and integrity.
Over the years, successive owners of the business have built on his legacy to create the much-loved, award-winning business it is today. We like to
think that Bert’s character still guides us today as we take his name, and business, forward to ever greater heights.
