Grapes: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay
From the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, Egly-Ouriet stands among Champagne’s most exacting grower-producers, known for low yields, old vines, and a relentless focus on ripeness and site expression. The Millésime bottlings represent the house at its most complete — wines that reflect both vintage character and the depth of Ambonnay’s chalk and Pinot Noir.
The 2016 is sourced from Grand Cru parcels, fermented in barrel and aged extensively on its lees before disgorgement. As always, dosage is minimal, allowing the wine’s structure and natural balance to lead. The long élevage brings integration and texture while preserving tension and precision.
Layered and composed, it shows notes of orchard fruit, citrus oil, and dried flowers, with hints of brioche and toasted hazelnut. The palate is structured yet finely detailed, with a persistent mousse, bright acidity, and a chalky mineral spine that carries through a long, focused finish. A natural pairing for roast poultry, turbot, or aged cheeses.
Per Jeb Dunnock: "A bright yellow hue, the 2016 Champagne Grand Cru Ambonnay Millesime Extra Brut is 70% Pinot Noir and the remainder Chardonnay. Offering springy, floral notes of orange sherbert and meringue, it's medium-bodied and has a bright focus on the palate, with zesty acidity. Zesty and more citrus driven at this stage, I wouldn't be surprised if it's better in years to come. I anticipate it fleshing out with time. Drink 2026-2056."
