Grape: 100% Chardonnay

Jean-Marc Roulot has made his family's domaine in Meursault one of Burgundy's most sought-after addresses, with a reputation built on Chardonnay of remarkable finesse and precision. But you don't need to venture into his famous Premier Crus to understand the appeal. His Auxey-Duresses Blanc offers a chance to experience the Roulot touch in a less celebrated corner of the Côte de Beaune, and is a wonderful reminder that great white Burgundy isn't confined to the most prestigious village names.

Tucked into a valley just west of Meursault, Auxey-Duresses has a cooler personality than its famous neighbor. The 2024 vintage plays particularly well to this character, delivering a Chardonnay that favours freshness and definition over sheer richness. Roulot's thoughtful approach to élevage brings texture and depth while allowing the natural energy of the wine to remain front and center.

Lemon zest, crisp pear and green apple open into white flowers, a little almond and a subtle stony note. There's a gentle creaminess through the middle, but bright acidity keeps everything lively, leading to a long, clean and mouthwatering finish. A lovely alternative to richer Meursault, and a bottle that should reward a few years of patience. Try it with scallops, grilled fish, roast chicken or a simple plate of Comté.
