Jean-Marc Roulot is a name that needs little introduction to lovers of white Burgundy, but his reds are well worth seeking out too. Best known for producing some of Meursault’s most coveted Chardonnays, Roulot brings the same meticulous attention to detail to a small collection of Pinot Noirs. Beaune Premier Cru Les Teurons offers a rather different side of the domaine, and a rare opportunity to explore Roulot beyond the whites that made his reputation.
Situated on the slopes above Beaune, Les Teurons is a Premier Cru known for producing Pinot Noir with both generosity and structure. The 2024 comes from a cooler, more demanding Burgundy vintage, giving the wine a particularly fresh and delicate character. Roulot’s restrained approach allows the fruit to take the lead, with an emphasis on purity and balance rather than extraction or overt oak influence.
Red cherry, raspberry and cranberry are joined by violet, gentle spice and a little earthy complexity. The palate is finely textured, with supple tannins and bright acidity bringing definition to the fruit. There’s a lovely savory quality to the finish, suggesting a wine that will become even more interesting with a few years in the cellar. A beautiful match for duck, roast chicken, wild mushrooms or a classic coq au vin.
