Georges Rémy is one of the exciting names helping to remind us that Champagne isn't just about bubbles. Based in Bouzy, in the heart of Pinot Noir country, Rémy makes small quantities of both Champagne and still wine, drawing on the region's long history of producing reds. His approach is thoughtful and decidedly Burgundian, with an emphasis on vineyard character rather than winemaking theatrics.
Les Vaudayants is a still red from the Grand Cru vineyards of Bouzy, where Pinot Noir enjoys a little extra warmth and ripeness. The 2022 vintage brings a generous side to the grape, while careful handling in the cellar allows its more delicate qualities to shine. It's a fascinating reminder of just how much Champagne's vineyards have to offer beyond sparkling wine.
Red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry meet rose petal, gentle spice and a little woodland earthiness. There's lovely depth here, but the wine remains light on its feet, with fine tannins and a fresh, savory finish. Think elegant red Burgundy with a distinctly Champenois accent. Delicious with duck, roast chicken, mushroom dishes or a plate of good charcuterie.
