Grapes: 90% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon, 2% Muscadelle

Sauternes is one of the great sweet wines of the world, and Château Laribotte makes a particularly appealing introduction to this remarkable corner of Bordeaux. Located in the village of Preignac, the estate has been in the Lahiteau family for generations, producing wines that capture the extraordinary richness and complexity of the region without requiring a special occasion to open a bottle. Although, of course, we're always happy to invent one!

The magic of Sauternes comes from Botrytis cinerea, the famous noble rot that concentrates the grapes' natural sugars and flavours. The vineyards' proximity to the Ciron and Garonne rivers creates the autumn mist and sunshine that encourage this transformation. Made primarily from Sémillon, with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle adding freshness and aromatic complexity, the 2024 offers the luscious texture and vibrant acidity that make Sauternes so much more interesting than simply a sweet wine.

Think ripe apricot, peach preserves and candied orange peel, with hints of honey, saffron and delicate spice. The palate is rich and silky, but a lively citrus freshness cuts through the sweetness, keeping everything wonderfully balanced. The finish is long, fragrant and gently honeyed. Delicious with foie gras, blue cheese, fruit tarts or crème brûlée. And don't overlook the classic pairing with roast chicken! A little luxury in a glass, and proof that great Sauternes needn't break the bank.
