Mashbill: 75% Corn, 20.5% Rye, 4.5% Malted Barley
Pinhook was created with a unique question;Â what if instead of aiming to replicate the same exact product year after year, they embraced each barrel's natural variations to craft a unique whiskey every time, taking inspiration from how winemakers create annual vintages?Â
Their "Vertical Series" provides a unique opportunity to explore the true impact of age on a whiskey, via a limited series of 13 consecutive annual releases of a single group of MGP barrels (with similar fill dates and identical mashbills) as they mature from 4-16 years of age.
The 2021 release marks year 6 of maturation, and is named after one of their favorite horses, Bourbon War. With another year of maturation, the 6-Year Bourbon War showcases rich aromas of brown sugar, licorice and toasted almond. Subtle notes of smoke and honey exhibited by the 5-year vintage have developed into a full palate of black cherries, cloves, and Tahitian vanilla. Rich enough to enjoy neat, particularly good over a large cube of ice, and absolutely at home in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
